My Story

I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I am a mom of 6, grandmother of 16, an advocate, and a motivational speaker. I am a survivor of mental, physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual abuse. I am also a survivor of substance abuse and prostitution. As a result of my trauma, I experience PTSD and anxiety, but in spite of it all, I continue to work towards changing the world for the better. Thriving over generational abuse and trauma, I went back to school for my GED and then became a credentialed substance abuse counselor (CASAC-T), recovery coach, licensed ordained minister, New York State Licensed Chaplain, writer, professional gospel singer, and praise dancer, and I am now on my way to becoming a licensed substance abuse counselor (CASAC). I went through recovery at the Addict’s Rehabilitation Center and was hired as a house manager there and then was promoted to a counselor position. I am now a Survivor Leader at Sanctuary for Families, one of the largest gender violence organizations in New York City.

I was drowning in the deepest darkness, but my path to thriving was always marked by my faith. Her resiliency was the light that set her free, liberating me from the guilt and the shame of my past. Now I pay tribute to everyone who paved the way for me, and it is time I pave the way for someone else.
